HISTORY
On 16th March 2016, Sohel Rana was sitting pensively in the late afternoon under a small tree at one corner of Shyamoli Park. A street child comes to him and asks for "jhalmuri". Sohel Rana offers a condition if the child can write his name he(s) will treat the child later. The child agreed happily and tried to write his name. Though the child could not write his name. Sohel Rana inspired the little boy to make him happy. At the end of day, Sohel Rana bought the child "jhalmuri". The next day the kid comes to learn to write his name and brings two more companions, named Nodi and Smrity.
Sohel Rana was very happy to teach them how to write their names and was happy that the children continued to come to him and the number of the children were increasing day by day. At the end of the month there were 16 Childrens who were the unprivileged Children of our society. Sohel Rana with some University going students agreed to form an organization and todays this organization was formed in the name of " CHAYATAL BANGLADESH " On 16th March 2016. Since then Chayatal is working for the underprivileged children of the society.
Purpose
"Chayatal
Bangladesh" was established on March 1, 2016, with the goal of assisting
underprivileged street children in Bangladesh by Sohel Rana. On June 13, 2022,
"Chayatal Bangladesh" was registered as a non-governmental
organization (NGO) under the registration number D-09807 and NGO-3296 by the
NGO Affairs Bureau (NGOAB). It operates as a voluntary organization with the
motto, "We don’t want a single child to grow up on the street" Since
its inception, the organization has been providing essential services such as
free food, primary education, vocational training, clothing, and medical care
to 249 street children in Dhaka city.
Despite being a
financially demanding initiative, Chayatal is committed to assisting these
children. Additional support is required to sustain this assistance without
government funding. The organization has outlined its objectives as follows:
1. Provide
children with food, clothing, shelter, education, and healthcare.
2. Ensure equal
rights for children as citizens of Bangladesh.
3. Empower each
child to become self-reliant through vocational training such as handcrafts,
sewing machine and mobile repair as well as computer training.
4. Contribute to
transforming the population of the country into human resources.
Currently,
Chayatal accommodates 136 girls and 113 boys, aged between 5 and 15, from
various locations in Dhaka city across four campuses. The children gather in
the Chayatal premises at 8:30 AM, have breakfast after the morning assembly,
attend classes until 2:00 PM, engage in vocational activities after lunch, and
return to the shelter by 6:00 PM. They sleep in makeshift beds, under makeshift
shelters, amidst the dark and fearful night, exposed to the harsh weather
conditions. The challenging living conditions make them vulnerable to crime and
exploitation.
Chayatal
Bangladesh believes that every child deserves a bright and secure future.
Therefore, the organization envisions establishing residential schools where
children can grow through discipline, participate in various activities, enjoy
their childhood, and acquire new skills, shaping their present and future roles
in society. Chayatal's goal is to save these children from social exploitation,
providing them with the essentials of life, and preparing them to be
responsible and self-reliant citizens. Join hands in support, and let's
contribute to building a healthier society.
